To the soft Bed, my Body I dispose,

But where shall my Soul repose?

Then to thy Rest, O my Soul! And singing, praise

The Mercy that prolongs thy Days.

The recording project started because of my natural singing voice that reminded others of a baroque music countertenor. Coincidentally, it was when I just completed my doctoral dissertation on the topic of baroque vocal music ornamentation. This recording, I Chose 13 songs from the baroque music composers, and explained about the background and related important historical points and my personal feelings that are arising from each song.

“An Evening Hymn” (track 1) is a perfect song to listen to during the evening when we face the time to close and think about the day. It is the evening time we start to question the meaning of life, and it is the time the negative thoughts start to glide into our mind and steal hopes, but to drop regrets and destitute. But through this process of creating the album, Evening Hymn, I began to sense warmth of gratitude in my heart that could melt the darkness and evil away. Because of this inspiration, I named this album, Evening Hymn.

저녁시간이 되어 하루를 정리하는 저녁기도 “An Evening Hymn” (트랙 1) 을 노래 하였다. 살아 숨쉬는 하루하루가 감사하다는 마음으로 저녁기도를 불렀다. 밤이 되면 바쁜 일상속에서 하지못했던 일들에 대한 회한이 나의 희망을 훔쳐가곤 한다. 허나 이 저녁기도를 통해 내 영혼의 쉼터를 찾아 감사한 마음이 싹튼다. 그리고 그 마음안에 절망이 아닌 사랑을 조금씩 느낀다. 그런 의미에서 전체 음반 제목을 “An Evening Hymn” 이라 붙였다.

지금, 해의 빛을 베일에 가리네,

세상을 잘 자라고 인사하네,

편한 잠자리로 내 몸은 눕건만...

내 영혼은 어디에 눕는가?
