AAMS

Asian American Music Society

since 2002

Mission:

Our mission is to create a vibrant forum for Asian American musicians, performing artists, poets and composers. We hope that AAMS will deepen the Asian influence that is already growing in American arts, and as we state, will “carry forward an aesthetic sensibility, that is rooted in thousands of years of cultural riches,” AAMS shares the essence of music masters’ understanding how Western classical music can be infused with the subtle beauty of the Eastern spirit to create an unforgettable and touching performance that speaks directly to the soul.

In 2002, Misoon Ghim founded and directed the non-profit organization, Asian American Children’s Choir (AACC), based on her belief in the importance of encouraging the community of Asian Americans to express their own identity with their singing voices. The mission of this organization speaks true to how she values diversity: the AACC values cultural growth and personal development for under-represented students, mentoring for Asian American children who value diversity and social justice. For many years, the AACC gave the Asian American community a chance to cherish their own heritage, native languages, and cultures.
